For some time, yacht builders have gone to great lengths incorporating Bowers & Wilkins Custom Installation loudspeakers into ocean going luxury yacht, Basically, specialist marine loudspeakers available in the market did not live up to the sonic and aesthetic requirements of their customers. They therefore modified our existing designs to stand up to marine conditions. This was no easy task, and without the ability to construct key parts, the yacht companies have had to replace weatherworn cosmetic part on a regular basics. To say the least, this is obviously not satisfactory for the yacht builders, their customers, or for Bowers & Wilkins for that matter, whose name is on the loudspeakers.

Consequently, and to address this market, Bowers & Wilkins has developed two flush mount loudspeakers that fully comply with the tough marine IP66 regulations, while living up to the acoustic performance and industrial design standards expected of all Bowers & Wilkins products.

The marine environment is unforgiving. Any equipment has to survive extremes of temperature, salt spray, and hosing down. It’s little wonder then that most speakers designed for marine applications sacrifice sound quality for ruggedness.

Of course, any Bowers & Wilkins speaker must sound brilliant. So Marine 6 was first designed to match exciting sound quality standards, then the necessary toughness to survive the harsh marine environment was added. The model boasts an IP66 rating when properly installed, and the metal grille and all screws are marine-grade stainless steel. The driver chassis uses a non-corroding rigid polymer and the tweeter dome has a rear support to prevent permanent deformation when hosed down.

Marine 8 is super-tough to deal with the most demanding installation environments, with Bowers & Wilkins superior, uncompromising audio quality.

Marine 8 is a two-way loudspeaker with a 25mm (1in) tweeter and a 200mm (8in) polypropylene bass/midrange driver. It boasts an IP66 rating for incredible ruggedness when installed and although it is the larger of the Marine Series loudspeakers it fits into a shallow depth of 93mm (3.7in) with a cut-out of 249mm (9.8in).

The larger of the two speakers in the Bowers & Wilkins Marine Series, the Marine 8 features a 25mm (1in) tweeter and a 200mm (8in) polypropylene bass/midrange driver. This combination is capable of delivering pristine sound in the most severe of environments.
